Joan Meschino
Executive Director
Joan Meschino joined MA Appleseed in 2008 and brought with her a wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors. Joan is an experienced healthcare attorney, having worked in private practice and with both Partners Healthcare System and Private Healthcare Systems, Inc. Joan is a leader in the legal community as well as in her local community. She serves on the Massachusetts Bar Association's Access to Justice Section Council and a member of the host committee for women's leadership initiative of the Women's Bar Association. She recently served two terms on the Board of Selectmen in the Town of Hull. She continues to serve her local community on the Metropolitan Area Planning Council's Executive Committee. Joan received her JD from University of New Hampshire School of Law (formerly Pierce Law). She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University.
Martha Drane
Law Fellow
Martha is Massachusetts Appleseed's Law Fellow. In this role, she works on the Center's key legislative, research and other advocacy projects. The Center is partnering with the Medical-Legal Partnership | Boston (MLP | Boston) so that Martha also serves as an education law attorney there on a part-time basis. Martha recently completed a fellowship with the New England Law | Boston Center for Law and Social Responsibility. As the Fellow, she assisted the Center in all of its public interest projects, and also worked as an education law attorney at MLP | Boston. She provided direct representation to low-income families who struggled with special education issues, particularly for those children with Autism Spectrum Disorder; transitional services for children entering public schools from early intervention programs; and disciplinary issues for children with disabilities. Martha is a graduate of New England Law | Boston and Ithaca College.
